Moor than meets the eye Open Day

Granite Elements ProjectOver the last year we have been working with parish communities across Dartmoor to start exploring their past as part of Moor than meets the eye, a Heritage Lottery Funded scheme. The scheme provides eligible Dartmoor parishes with a grant of up to £10,000 enabling people to celebrate, record and conserve important features in the parish landscape. There have been a range of interesting and exciting projects so far including conserving an historic map, working with school children to explore where they live, engraving a parish boundary stone and supporting an archaeological study.

Moretonhampstead History Society have been working with Emma, the Moor than meets the eye Community Heritage Officer to develop a community project to look at the heritage of the area.

To find out more we will be holding an open day on Saturday March 12th at Ilsington Village Hall to look at what has been achieved so far and help people develop ideas for their own parish project. The session starts at 10am and includes a light buffet lunch. Please contact Andy Bailey on 01822 890903 or email andy@moorthanmeetstheeye.org for more details and to book your place.

For those who cannot make it to the morning session there will be a more informal drop-in session throughout the afternoon to find out more about the wider scheme and the wide variety of projects that are underway to conserve Dartmoor.

Visit our website www.moorthanmeetstheeye.org/parishscapes for information about the project.
